It’s a great feeling when something positive happens that directly relates to a book you have read, it’s like “the penny has dropped”moment. I was very fortunate to get this feeling recently after reading “Born to Blog” and “The Tao of Twitter”. I had read Born to Blog first and as a result then went on to read The Tao of Twitter which was mentioned in this book.

Born to Blog was co authored by Mark W Schaefer and Stanford A Smith and The Tao of Twitter was written by Mark W Schaefer.140620 Tao of Twitter 1140620 Tao of Twitter 2

There were plenty of great tips and advice in both books and I’m not about to relate this post to all of them, one common theme in both books though was the benefit of nurturing quality relationships, quality rather than quantity being the key.

The message was that you can’t possibly make quality contact with several thousand followers, instead you need to seek out some people that you can in fact build a relationship with, some people that share some common interests or way of thinking, not unlike how relationships have always evolved really, before social media existed. So its really the same concept that’s been around for since the beginning of age!!

So where was it realised for me?

It started for me when I shared some information on Twitter on my sister’s Blog (Silk Sarongs), the story of her life and her retreat 140620 Tao of Twitter 3(Sharing Bali) in Bali. This led to a bit of a twitter exchange with Adriana Kupresak, it seems that Karen’s (my sister) story seem to resonate with Adriana and she retweeted and commented, we then exchanged some tweets back and forth.

The end result being we started to maintain an awareness of each other’s tweets and other social media activities and we also slowly started to learn a bit more about each other’s world.

Then what happened?

What happened next or what’s happening now is that we both have become advocates for each other, sharing tweets and promoting each other to our own individual group of followers.

Why?

Because we took time to look further and realised that we can relate to what we each do.

The power of endorsement

I’m talking about and promoting Adriana to my followers, Adriana is doing the same for me but the most important point is that we are both doing it with some level of passion, its not a simple click and RT or share, it comes with a level of endorsement to each other’s followers and that builds trust in doing so, thus it is more likely that the shared content will actually be read.

So at the end of the day, a chance twitter encounter has led to the building of some respect and trust for 2 people that live in opposite ends of the world, we may never meet but I have a feeling that we will continue to support each other’s endeavours in life.

Adriana’s tag line is “Writer, Traveller, Inspirationalist” , her soul baring blog post “Alcoholism: The Conversation that began with Patron xo” certainly is inspirational, I encourage you to read it and possibly share the message, as it is indeed a worthy message that may help some people out there that are at a time where its most needed. Thank you for taking the time to share and care Adriana 🙂
