Rob and I are experienced Airbnb hosts and over the past two and a half years we have successfully hosted over 200 guests from around the world in our gorgeous apartment in Melbourne. https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/2108501
We are delighted to be invited to be part of the WFA Conference in November 2016 to share our experiences of hosting on Airbnb and show you how to earn income from your home so that you too can have the freedom to Work from Anywhere.
Since becoming hosts, we have travelled to Thailand, San Francisco (twice), Paris and over a dozen times within Australia, staying at Airbnb listings all the way. Many guests, like us, travel and use Airbnb to experience life like a local. It is a great, affordable way to explore neighbourhoods where tourists don’t often stay.
All the while, we have been working remotely from our laptops, discovering new places and meeting awesome people!
At the WFA Conference, we will be running two 60 minute workshops covering all aspects of hosting on Airbnb from “Where do I start?” to “What do I do with my things in my wardrobe? to “How can I successfully host remotely whilst I travel” and everything in between.
During the workshop, we will cover practical things like :
- How does Airbnb work?
- What sort of places can be listed on Airbnb?
- How do I get started?
- What do I do with all my “stuff”?
- How do I screen guests to make sure there is a fit?
- How to deliver memorable guest experiences, especially if I am travelling?
- What if something goes wrong?
- What sort of insurance do I need?
- What about tax?
In Dr Stephen R Covey’s well known book, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, he talks about the concept of “Begin with the end in mind”. We often use this approach of beginning with the end in mind, to visualise what sort of lifestyle you want and articulating what is important to you. It helps put your goals in focus and moves your ideas into the real world, to take practical steps to make it happen.
Sometimes people get very overwhelmed (and this is true about any lifestyle change) that they don’t start at all. What we have learnt (and have taught others around the world) is that once you identify your goal of working from anywhere, consider deeply what is important to you and how you want to live your life, that the steps become effortless and easy (and even fun!) We have turned our knowledge and experience into a range of systems, tools and resources to help others.
We work with a fascinating range of people in all sorts of situations from Cirque du Soleil performers who had a trapeze in their backyard (they agreed to take down whilst they have Airbnb guests for safety reasons), freelance writers and budding micro-entrepreneurs, to a family with five children who wanted to earn income while they explore the world.
In our next blog, we will share our top tips on how to become a successful host on Airbnb while you Work from Anywhere!
